The New SINE (Guest-Host) Tool for Balance Method Acupuncture
A New Evolution in Balance Method Acupuncture
Inspired by Dr. Richard Tan’s vision, this course builds upon his profound legacy of innovation and practical excellence.
Dr. Tan recognized the importance of continuous evolution in acupuncture, highlighting this clearly in his book, Strategy of Twelve Magical Points (2003).
“My dream is that more acupuncturists will become inspired to create their own treatment strategies with equally amazing outcomes” – Dr. Richard Tan.
How a loved one's illness led to a new approach
When Kris’s wife suddenly became seriously ill, Western medicine had little to offer. Overnight, he became her full-time caregiver.
Determined to help, he turned to Chinese herbs and acupuncture—but she was too weak. The treatments weren’t working reliably. Kris realized he needed to reach a different energetic layer of the meridian–organ system.
So he went back to the classics—the Lingshu and Nanjing—driven to find something that could save her.
From that search, a new strategy emerged:
SINE (Same Internal Name External)—a refined, 4-needle approach using Guest-Host principles to access a deeper organ-level layer.
And it worked.
His wife could tolerate four needles—and she began to improve. Encouraged by her progress, Kris brought SINE into his clinic, where he and his colleagues saw remarkable results. After sharing it with his community—and seeing those same results again—it became clear:
Now it’s time to teach this to more acupuncturists.
Because some patients haven’t responded to anything else.
And this may be the tool that finally changes that.

What is SINE?
SINE, an abbreviation consisting of the terms Same-Name and Internal-External.
It is a special combination of the Guest-Host strategies. It uses three Global Balance Structures with only four needles per structure.
Balance Method Acupuncture has a huge toolbox of tools.
For Example:
- Local Balance
- Global Balance with image projection,
- Meridian Conversion
- Seasonal Balance
- Wu Xing
- Strategy of the Twelve Magical Points
All these tools are part of the same classical framework and access different energetic layers of the meridian-organ system.
To have a tool based more on organ-energetic layers, SINE (Guest-Host) was developed based on the Lingshu and Nanjing. This extends the power of Balance Method Acupuncture in treating functional disorders.
SINE is an extension of Balance Method Acupuncture for treating functional disorders.
In this course you will learn:
- The three main Global Balance Structures.
- The new OBS Balance Matrix to find balancing meridians and their side fast.
- The new Balance Wheel tool to manage the entire meridian network with ease.

“I’m not a complete Balance Method Nerd… so how and why will this course help me and my patients?”
Great question—and you're not alone. You don’t have to be a hardcore BM expert to benefit from this course. Here's how SINE can help you and your patients:
🔹 Simple, Practical, and Powerful
- SINE is built around just four needles—making it easy to learn and easy to apply, even if you’re not fluent in every BM system.
- The approach is clear and structured, not overwhelming. If you’ve done any Balance Method or distal acupuncture, you’ll be able to integrate this quickly.
🔹 A New Tool for Tough Cases
- It gives you a fresh strategy when Meridian Conversion or Wu Xing don’t work—or are too strong for sensitive patients.
- Ideal for treating functional disorders like fatigue, insomnia, digestive issues, or chronic pain—conditions that often resist conventional treatment.
🔹 Rooted in Classical Wisdom
- SINE is based on classical Guest-Host theory from the Lingshu and Nanjing, reinterpreted through a modern clinical lens.
- You’ll gain insights into organ-level energetics—without having to master an entire new system.
🔹 Enhances Patient Outcomes
- Patients experience faster, more targeted results with less stimulation—especially helpful for those who are highly sensitive, weak, or burned out.
- SINE helps you become the practitioner who succeeds when others can’t.
🔹 Grow Your Clinical Confidence
- Add a versatile, go-to tool to your practice that you can rely on when other approaches fall short.
- Stand out in your community by offering something uniquely effective that very few acupuncturists know how to do.
